Plan an Event

It starts with a great idea – and ends with the reward of making a donation that will enhance education and support local student success.

Each year, enthusiastic individuals and devoted groups work together to raise money for the Ottawa Network for Education by hosting an independent community event. We have received proceeds from raffles, golf tournaments, retro dances, diner take-overs, garage sales, and more.

Ideas for Events

Host a party or a dance

Make the most of your next party – by adding a fundraising component that will raise much-needed funds for the Ottawa Network for Education. Charge a small admission fee, add a 50/50 draw or raffle, or put a few items up for auction. It’s your chance to be creative, have fun, and contribute to the success of local students.

Raffle or silent auction

If you’re already planning an event, consider adding a raffle or silent auction that will benefit ONFE. Your contribution will help fund important programs to help local students shine inside and outside the classroom.

Have a yard sale

Take spring cleaning to the next level, by organizing a neighbourhood yard sale, and directing the proceeds to ONFE. It’s easy to do, and your contribution will help us address critical issues like: student hunger and inadequate nutrition; literacy and numeracy deficits; learning disabilities; and substance abuse in the middle and high school years.

Golf or hockey tournament

Does your company host a golf or hockey tournament every year? Do you participate in a golf tournament that doesn’t have a charitable beneficiary? If so, consider directing the proceeds of your event to ONFE to give every child in Ottawa the chance to succeed in school.

Bake sale

You might be surprised by how much money you can raise by organizing a simple bake sale. Just be sure to let everyone know how their purchase and donations will be supporting student success in school across Ottawa.

Jeans or Dress Down day

Perhaps the easiest way to raise awareness and funds for your favourite charity is to organize a Jeans or Dress Down Day at work. And, while you’re at it, why not add a bake sale or raffle to raise even more money for critical programs at ONFE.

Event Profile – Dream Mountains

Every spring, Shawn Dawson, of the Dream Mountains Foundation guides a group of climbers to the peak of one of the seven highest mountains, while supporting seven local and global charities. Since 2001, Dream Mountains has raised nearly $100,000 for the Ottawa School Breakfast Program.

“It has been a life changing experience for me and the climbers to combine the experience of summiting the highest peaks with supporting critically important charitable programs. On #GivingTuesday, I encourage you to make a contribution that will make this community a better place to live and work.” – Shawn Dawson, Dream Mountains
