ONFE Volunteer In Education: Russ
The Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE) is a non-profit organization that aims to support and empower children and youth in the Ottawa community. ONFE achieves its mission through a variety of programs and initiatives, many of which are driven by volunteers who are passionate about education, helping children and youth succeed, and making a difference in their community.
One of the key ways that ONFE makes a difference is through its volunteer program. We have a large network of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting students and schools in a variety of ways. From tutoring and mentoring to organizing community events and fundraisers, volunteers play a crucial role in helping ONFE achieve its mission.
The benefits of volunteering with ONFE are many. For starters, volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and make a positive impact in the lives of students. It is also a great way to meet new people, develop new skills, and gain experience in various areas such as public speaking and leadership, but don’t just take it from us. Meet Volunteers in Education (VIE), volunteer, Russ.
– Russ Brown, VIE Volunteer
“Assisting high school students through ONFE, primarily with math and physics, has given me a chance to “pay back” to our Ontario education system, since I obtained my degrees and resulting rewarding career thanks to the opportunities and many excellent teachers I had along the way. As a retired engineer, I think it is important for all of us to have some understanding of math and science, and that’s an area where I feel I can be helpful. I enjoy working with young people, seeing their enthusiasms and watching them achieve their goals, and I have developed many friendships with the amazing students, staff and other volunteers that I have met. Also I quite enjoy the challenge of “How can I explain this clearly?” It certainly helps keep the mind alive!”
Russ is a phenomenal volunteer who has shown commitment and dedication to students in Ottawa for many years. VIE is lucky to have Russ in our roster of volunteers – he is patient, kind, intelligent, and his care and concern for young people is obvious when you get him talking. He is currently tutoring three high school students in our virtual after school tutoring program. Thank you for your contribution, Russ!
